Mike grew up in Stratford, NJ, where his earliest memories of music were listening to the radio in his Dad's Buick, with all the great music of the 70s playing. Mike says, "my dad loved listening to Billy Joel, Herb Albert and The Tijuana Brass, and Dionne Warwick to name a few. I distinctly remember hearing the solo to Stairway To Heaven on the radio during one of these drives, and being struck by lightning". Mike's earliest guitar influences were all Gibson players including Ace Frehley, Jimmy Page, Neal Schon, Peter Frampton, Tom Scholz and Tony Iommi. Mike began taking guitar lessons at the age of 15, and remembers tackling the solo from Aqualung as one of his first serious challenges. Mike's first band was called the Chuck Wa Band, and his first concert was KISS at the Philadelphia Spectrum on the Dynasty tour with Judas Priest opening.
